YC19 TAS Broodstock

Allocation information

The YC19 allocation will be the only allocation for this year class and have been challenged over the 2019/2020 POMS season in Pitt Water. The Broodstock will be allocated from 2 groups – an exposed and unexposed group. Preference will be given to the exposed stock, but there is the option to order stock from the unexposed group. The information is summarised in the table below.

EBV + Inbreeding Values

The EBV are in a similar format to last year.  However, the POMS hit was a “Light Infection” and we do not have the different broodstock groups for the 2019-year class.  You may recall that last year we had different categories of broodstock based on them receiving either a “Severe Infection”, “Moderate Infection” or “Light Infection”, and that resulted in different EBV based on different within family selection.  There will be none of that for the YC19 year class, only two groups of exposure under two theroretical ranges of POM severities; “Moderate” POMS exposure and a “Severe” exposure.  These ranges provides more information on the range of mortalities under different POMS severities. The EBV have been calibrated using the data from trials shown in Table 1.  The calibration has therefore been done with data from only one season and it is possible that more severe hits may occur, meaning EBV could also be scaled to a “very hard POMS hit”.  However, we do not have that sort of data for POMS so be aware that a more severe POMS hit may be possible. It is important to note that the EBV reflect POMS mortality only and are not intended to show losses due to other causes.  Therefore, other potential losses must be factored in (added) to give an overall expectation of survival.
